I Want To be A Workaholic No More

I want to be a workaholic no more ;
Fighting and struggling for sanity;
Over applying and over prioritising;
Trying to save the world, yet unable to save me;
I want to be a workaholic no more,
I just want to do my best and leave the rest to fate.

I want to be a workaholic no more;
Sometimes I feel threatened by own set standards;
I keep on watching behind my back for when it’s gonna come back and stab me right in the back;
Pushing me off my own track, coercing me to take a break;
I want to be a workaholic no more;
Lest I perish whilst the work lives on.

I want to be a workaholic no more;
Trying overly to prove a point,
Unsure of my competence and thus making up with extra work;
Forgetting that busyness doesn’t always amount to productivity;
I want to be a workaholic no more,
I know I am capable and I’m just gonna believe that.

I want to be a workaholic no more;
Intense and always business-minded;
Pushy and aggressive with performing tasks;
No breaks to think, smile or relate;
I want to be a workaholic no more,
I want to enjoy work, not endure it.

I want to be a workaholic no more, only finding fulfilment in clocking victories;
Ticking boxes of lengthy to-do lists;
Basing my joy and fulfilment on ticked boxes;
Whilst the humans I live with and love see less and less of me;
Dreaming and visualising work at any given time.
I want to be a workaholic no more,
Cause stress-related diseases ain’t fun to deal with.
